What are Blogs for *updated Oct 17*

This area is what was described in the roadmap as "photographer pages". These are articles written by you and presented for everyone to view and comment on. These blogs, or articles, can be used to present any information you want to present.

Initially they were to provide a method for you to do a presentation. You can write a description of a set of photos and include selected photos from your Portfolio. This presentation will show up on your Profile page for others to see, and it will show up on the Groups page as a recent Blog.

Another use of these Blogs could be to document a "photographer's entire work process for a given image" as suggested here.

The main advantage of these blogs is that you can easily include photos from your Portfolio, other photos from your computer, or photos found elsewhere on the web (using proper copyright rules). You can format them in a pleasing way, and add links to other sites or other pages on this site. They provide you a way of documenting or discussing any issue that is better communicated with links, photos, and formatting.

Each blog can have "tags" associated with it. These tags provide a way to organize and search for similar blogs. When viewing a blog, the associated tags are presented at the bottom of the blog. Clicking on one of these tags will bring up a page of similar blogs.

Cindy;

Great idea but I cannot get a toolbar. Just a page to write on and save or publish as options.

I'm on a Mac, using Safari.

I am looking into this and have a couple possible solutions. The problem is I won't be able to verify it works until I get access to a Safari/Mac, possibly tonight.

I left a note on your profile page.

Cindy:

The toolbar shows up fine with the link provided. The browser button to specify what image to select works only with my portfolio images. It will not let me search on my computer or another server for image selection.

Really nice toolbar, by the way.

I just wanted to let you know I am still working on this. I know this editor works well on Firefox, IE 6, IE 7 on windows, Firefox on linux, and it works well on Firefox and Camino on the Mac. But I am pretty confident that it can/will work on Safari 3.0+ on Mac. It will take me a while to figure it out though.

P.S. Your photo makes me want to drive down and walk around Ninigret Pond again. I haven't been there for years.

Thanks, Cindy. I did try it in FireFix and the toolbar is there, so I'll use that browser to make the blog entry. Is Safari always a problem?

Thanks for the PS. Ninigret Pond is certainly magical in fall, after the traffic jams clear out. Peak color in about 8-10 days!!!

Yes, Safari uses a core that is quite different from other browsers. Of course, you could say that other browsers use a different core than Safari. But unfortunately, Safari is not the top one or two browsers so therefore most code is written for IE and Firefox - the top (most used) browsers. The code is then special cased for Safari.

Anyway, the editor I am using is an open source editor created first for IE and Firefox. It will fully support Safari 3.0+ very soon. At that point, I will upgrade the editor and make a post saying that Safari should work. I am glad you can use Firefox for now to post blogs. I will move on to other things and wait until the open source community finishes the Safari support, instead of spending time doing that myself.

Thanks for the foliage tip!
